in many Newport organizations and activities, including our neighborhood associations. This background informs our discussion of the five areas of focus.
During the past two years 20 community forums
were hosted by ALN.

The Alliance for a Livable Newport is a diverse group of residents. Membership is open to any person,  business or civic group.

Meet Lauren Carson...ALN "The Point" Representative

Lauren Carson is an Aquidneck Island resident since 1986, and a Newport resident for sixteen years.   Lauren is an accomplished entrepreneur, strategic manager, organizational leader and engaged member of the community.

Her academic accomplishments include a Masters of Business Administration, University of Rhode Island,1992, majoring in Organizational Management and Strategic Planning; and a Masters of Art in History, University of Rhode Island, 2008, majoring in Medieval and Renaissance History.  She is trained in leadership development, management and fundraising in non-profit organizations, and community participation in a wide variety of organizations.

Most recently, her professional accomplishments include the 1992 start-up and strategic management of CompuClaim, a Newport data management company specializing in managing health care data.  Lauren sold that company in 2010.  Prior to that, Lauren owned the former Mount Vernon Inn Bed and Breakfast, Mount Vernon Street, Newport, and was engaged in the tourism industry in the City.  Before relocating to Newport in 1986, Lauren served as the founding director of the New Jersey Environmental Federation, a statewide environmental coalition of community, environmental, student and labor organizations working on a broad range of environmental issues.

Lauren has served as the President of the Board at the Norman Bird Sanctuary, Middletown, Rhode Island, 1995-2000 and led their 1998 strategic planning process resulting in a complete property management redesign plan; and has served as the President of the Saint Michael’s Country Day School Parent’s Association, Newport, Rhode Island, 2001-2003.  She is a member of the Newport Historical Society.

Lauren has one grown son, resides in the Point, and serves as the Point delegate to the ALN Board of Directors. She enjoys a healthy lifestyle, independent filmmaking, studying Spanish, researching history, and the friendships and lifestyle living in Newport have afforded her.
