Meet John Hirschboeck, ALN Secretary
John is head of Cloverly Consulting, a not for profit marketing consulting firm in Newport, Rhode Island. Cloverly works pro-bono with other non-profit organizations to improve their marketing and communication efforts. Arts Orange County, KOCE-TV public television, the California Missions, The Bowers Museum of Cultural Art and the Newport Bristol County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau are just a few of the projects John has consulted on. Spending most of his advertising life with Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising, John began his account management career in New York in package goods, working on General Mills cereals and then the launch of Legg’s products, which Advertising Age heralded as “One of the top marketing success stories of the decade.”
John then moved to California to manage the Toyota business during its meteoritic growth throughout the ‘80’s, working both at Saatchi Los Angeles and Australia.
In 1990, John was named President of Team One, a Saatchi subsidiary that launched Lexus, Toyota’s successful entry into the luxury market.
John left Southern California in 1994 to become Vice President, Marketing for Pleasant Company, a Wisconsin firm now part of Mattel, which markets the American Girl ® line of books, magazines, and educational products. While there, he helped create their e-commerce site and plan the first of the American Girl Place ® retail outlets.
In 1996, John was named President of Y&R Detroit, but the departure of the Lincoln Mercury Division to Irvine, California in 1998 brought him back to California where he established an all-new integrated group of Y&R companies, the first such “total consumer communication” group under one roof. With Lincoln-Mercury’s unexpected return to Detroit in 2002, John began Cloverly Consulting in Orange County, California.
In 2008, with their two children off to college back east, John and his wife Mary elected to move to Newport, Rhode Island to enjoy and contribute to the rich cultural heritage of the area.
John currently serves in Executive Director positions on The Arts & Cultural Alliance of Newport County and the Alliance for a Livable Newport and is a member of Newport’s Cliff Walk Commission. He also volunteers his time at the Newport Convention & Visitor’s Bureau welcoming tourists to the “City by the Sea.”
Email John with your concerns and ideas for making Newport more "livable."
