Meet Isabel Griffith, Vice-President
Born and raised in Dallas, TX, Isabel has two degrees from Southern Methodist University. Her teaching career began in Virginia and she has taught in elementary, middle, and high schools as well as in higher education. Two single sex, girls' boarding and day schools helped shape her career. She served as Department Chair (Science), worked in Admissions and became Academic Dean, Associate Head and finally, Interim Head of School. While living in Virginia, Isabel and her then husband operated a farm and had some success racing horses in MD, NY, PA and DE. She was Upper School Head at The Latin School of Chicago before becoming a consultant to independent schools.
After eleven years at Independent Educational Services in Princeton, New Jersey, running their placement service for administrators and conducting a number of head of school searches, Isabel moved to Rhode Island in 1997 to work in Portsmouth with Educational Directions, Inc., a consulting and publishing firm which serves independent schools throughout the United States. In her years at EDI she assisted schools with over fifty searches for administrators.
Since moving to Newport, Isabel has lived in the Point Neighborhood where she is in the final months of her tenure as President of the Point Association. Her hobbies are gardening and reading. She is foolishly proud that she owns neither a cell phone nor a television set.
Email Isabel with your concerns and ideas for making Newport more "livable."
