Meet Rear Admiral Glenn E. Whisler, USN (Ret.)
Glenn Whisler is a founding member of the ALN and has been a Director since January 2005. He holds a BS Degree from West Virginia University and a Masters Degree in Marine Affairs from the University of Rhode Island. He earned his commission in the United States Navy from Officers Candidate School in Newport and went on to serve on active duty for 28 years, retiring at the rank of Rear Admiral. His Naval service encompassed virtually all areas of naval and joint operations, including four sea commands and extensive experience in aircraft carrier battle group and amphibious task force operations. He also commanded the Surface Warfare Officers School in Newport and is a graduate of the Naval War College and the National Defense University (Capstone). His personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit (5 awards) and the Vietnam Service Medal (4 Campaigns).
Glenn and his wife, Betty, have been permanent residents of the Castle Hill Neighborhood area of Newport for the past 20 years. In 2007 Glenn completed 17 years with Northrop Grumman Corporation at the Middletown, RI., office as a manager, director and military advisor to the Mission Systems Sector.
Glenn enjoys volunteer work and in addition to ALN he has served in leadership positions as the Chairman of the Naval War College Foundation Board of Trustees, President Continental Sloop Providence, President Newport, RI Chapter of the Naval Order of the United States and Vice Chairman of the Castle Hill Neighborhood Association. He also serves on the Board of Directors to construct the SSV Oliver Hazard Perry, Rhode Island’s Education at Sea Tall Ship.
Glenn and Betty have two adult children, Elizabeth Anne (Lisa) and Glenn Edward III.
